This should not happen in America. Young immigrants who came as children are making their case to stop the Trump administration from rescinding or phasing off DACA, putting more than 800,000 families in danger of deportation and economic insecurity.

If Harvey is a natural disaster, knocking off DACA will be a Trump-made disaster.

In spite of being some of the most hardworking Americans, DACA-DREAMers are finding themselves in this perilous situation, and at the hands of a racist, morally bankrupt individual who plays with the lives of people for ratings, shock value and to fulfill the white supremacist agenda.

It is the height of calculated cynicism.

Initially, Trump said he will treat DREAMers with heart. But lately he signaled that there has been a “review” of the program.

As we reported in Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is pressuring the Trump administration to end the DACA program and asked governors and attorney generals from other states to add their names to his petition. Only 10 signed with him.

They are also following the demands of a small extremist fringe of the Republican Party that is tangled with neo-Nazis, alt-righters, and anti-immigrants.

Advocates are asking DACA beneficiaries to stop traveling overseas, afraid that the program will be terminated while they are in their countries of origin with a special permit called Advance Parole, which we have analyzed here.

As I explained to reporter Beatriz Limon, we do not know if the DACA program will be terminated, and if so in what manner or when. It could be an abrupt end or a slow death by phasing it off.

In these uncertain times, Trump may use the termination to create headlines that distract the media and the people from the Russia investigation.

Phoenix metro area DREAMer groups are joining efforts to protest in front of the ICE building on Central Avenue all week from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Please stop by to show support; bring bottled water and snacks.

What else can you do?

Organize support groups and use social media to express your solidarity with DACA-DREAMers and their families. Write letters to the editor to newspapers and write your congressperson and senators.

One thing is for sure. If Trump ends DACA, he will be on the wrong side of history. DACA-DREAMers will persevere and win.
