This Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit works to honor the United States’ immigrant history while shaping how Americans feel and act toward immigration now. Through its education and international exchange programs, the American Immigration Council teaches citizens about immigrants’ past and present contributions to the richness of American culture. The American Immigration Council’s legal and policy programs promote humane immigration policies, achieve justice for immigrants under the law, and ensure immigration laws honor constitutional mandates as well as human rights.
“What makes us unique is our hyper-technical expertise on immigration law and the immigration system because our sister arm is the American Immigration Lawyers Association,” says communications director Wendy Feliz. “They make us aware of the abuses. We have the ear of the immigration lawyers, and they have our ear, so we try to address some of the issues they’re actually seeing.”
