Can The Border Divide Us?

Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund sponsors community conversations about issues that impact Latino, Chicano, immigrant and Mexican communities in the Southwest through a fascinating series of lectures, panels and films called “Can A Border Divide Us?”

Designed by former Arizona State Senator Alfredo Gutierrez and the Raúl Castro Institute at Phoenix College, the events are free and open to the public.

Past events have included:

“La Bestia” documentary screening, plus a discussion with the film’s director, Pedro Ultreras

“Salt of the Earth” film screening, plus a discussion on the history of the Mexican labor movement with Chris Newman and Alfredo Gutierrez

“The Crusades of Cesar Chavez” book discussion with author Miriam Pawel

“Sleep Dealer” film screening, plus discussion with director Alex Rivera

“To Sin Against Hope” book discussion with author Alfredo Gutierrez

“The State of Arizona” documentary screening, plus commentary by Carlos Garcia from Puente

“Women, the Power of Our Stories” discussion panel with Mary Rabago, Maria Harper-Marinick, Maria Cruz Ramirez, Viridiana Hernandez, Jacinta Gonzalez and Maria Barquin
